ABOUT US NEWS FIXTURES THE TEAMS CORPORATE BOX CLUB INITIATIVES

  Our History

Caloundra Shelly Park United, which this year celebrates its 40th birthday, was one of three founding clubs of the first Sunshine Coast football competition.Along with clubs from Nambour and Glasshouse, Caloundra United was formed when a group of local football fanatics saw the need to establish a competition after informal games by enthusiastic migrants began being staged around the Coast.

In 2001 United merged with another strong local soccer club, Shelly Park Rangers, which had been playing for 18 years in the local church league. In 2002 the club’s senior men’s team went from being wooden spooners to just missing out on the finals. Then it made grand finals for three years in row.

Always emphasising strong junior development, Caloundra SPU also became the first Coast club to win back-to-back club championships in 2003 and 2004. The key to our success has been our youth development and the junior development policy at the club is only getting stronger.

Caloundra SPU has also been one of strongest women’s football clubs on the Coast in the past 15 years. For 10 years straight it either won a grand final, a premiership or both.

We are again looking forward to another successful season. Last season we just missed out on the men’s senior finals by one point in a closely contested competition. Linking ourselves with English Premier League Club Arsenal’s youth coaching program also positions us to bring a further significant contribution to Sunshine Coast, Queensland and Australian football.
